CHEATING

What does God think of cheating? It is always wrong?

LEVITICUS 19:11   Do not deceive or cheat one another.

PROVERBS 11:1   The LORD detests the use of dishonest scales, but he delights in accurate weights.

If you want God's blessing, you must live by his standards of fairness and justice. Cheating is the opposite of honesty because the motives behind it are always to deceive someone else.

ROMANS 13:9-10   The commandments say, "You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet." These and other such commandments are summed up in this one commandment: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God's law.

Cheating is evidence that you do not love or respect the person you cheated and that you are thinking only of yourself.

PSALM 101:7   I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence.

When you cheat, you are actually cheating yourself of what God has planned for you.

Is some cheating worse than other cheating?

MARK 12:40    The teachers of religious law shamelessly cheat widows out of their property and then pretend to be pious by making long prayers in public. Because of this, they will be severely punished.

Sin is sin, but some sin receives greater punishment from God. Cheating those who are less fortunate and then covering it up by trying to make your actions look spiritual is a double sin: first, the sin of cheating and second, the sin of pious deceit.

LUKE 16:10   If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in larger ones. But is you are dishonest in little things, you won't be honest with greater responsibilities.

Character is tested in the small choice you make. A little bit of cheating is cut out of the same piece of cloth as a lot of cheating. Just as a small drop of red dye colors a large glass of clear water, a small act of deception colors your character.

Promise from God  PROVERBS 11:1    The LORD detests the use of dishonest scales, but he delights in accurate weights.
